Summer Fun

Despite challenging times, your family can still have a great summer! From beautiful weather and limitless options of things to do, summer is what families in Michigan tend to love most! Here is a list of how to kill boredom this summer. Although many organizations are opening back up, please check their website or call to verify for any updated hours.

Summer Activities to Do With Kids: 

  1. Fly kites, build sand castles, splash in the water and enjoy one of Michigan’s beaches
  2. Get your steps in at a new walking path or hiking trail
  3. Spend the day at a local U-Pick Farm
  4. Shop around Holland Farmers Market on Wednesday and Saturdays from 8am-3pm as well as Monday evenings from 5-8pm
  5. Enjoy the outdoors by playing a game of disc golf
  6. Take a cruise on one of lakeshore’s best bike trails
  7. Let the kids run around at a new playground or park
  8. Pitch a tent at a local campground, or even in your backyard
  9. Relax in one of West Michigan’s prime hammocking locations
  10. Lather on the sunscreen and enjoy the sun at a local splash pad
  11. Check out a local Petting Zoo or the popular Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park and Critter Barn
  12. Complete outdoor challenges or a park passport through the Outdoor Discovery Center
  13. Enjoy West Michigan’s lakes and rivers by renting a kayak, canoe, paddleboard or tube
  14. Get your sweet tooth fix by trying a new ice cream shop
  15. See which summer camps are still open this summer
  16. Get creative with art and music classes or head downtown Holland to paint a pot
  17. Host your own backyard mini Olympics
  18. Spend a rainy day making a craft, conducting your own science experiment or head to Square Play Café to sip on coffee while kids age 1-7 play with new toys
  19. Let your imagination run by creating your own indoor fort
  20. Have the kids help whip up a summer snack
  21. Turn your backyard into a movie theatre
  22. Make a lemonade stand or enjoy other backyard activities
  23. Experience a backyard campfire, as long as it is within code
  24. Enjoy fishing in a local river or lake but do not forget to document the first catch
  25. Check out Grand Rapids Children’s Museum for their virtual at home activities or their $3 family nights
  26. Check out Holland’s Museum during their free admission Mondays hours
  27. Enjoy friendly competition with a game of mini golf, go karts or zip lining
  28. Have the kids be entertained with an at-home scavenger hunt, go geocaching or head to Grand Rapids and complete a mission together
  29. Check out discount movie nights at Holland 7 or AMC Holland 8
  30. Run around an indoor playground at Christ Memorial or Central Wesleyan Church
