Our Medical Providers

Holland Pediatric physicians are board certified by the Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) or the Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (FACOP). Our nurse practitioners are Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (CPNP). Both our physicians and nurse practitioners also provide education for medical and nursing students.

Kathryn “Kate” Davis, MD FAAP

Dr. Davis is a native of Holland and received her B.S. in chemistry from Hope College in 1996. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit in June of 2000. She then stayed in Detroit to complete her Pediatric Residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, part of the Detroit Medical Center, in June 2003. She was Chief Pediatric Resident from June 2003 to June 2004. Dr. Davis is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Davis enjoys all aspects of pediatrics and has a special interest in first-time parents, adolescent health, and ADHD.

Dr. Davis enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her husband, her son Jack, and her daughter Meghan. She enjoys spending time outdoors and cooking.

Daniela Egelmeer, DO FAAP

Dr. Egelmeer was born and raised in the beautiful country of Chile, in Santiago, between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountains. She has lived in West Michigan for many years. Dr. Egelmeer graduated from Grand Valley State University with a biomedical science degree, attended medical school at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

She enjoys spending time with her husband, Eelco (who grew up in The Netherlands), her little boy Brammetje, and her new daughter Carla Lily.  Dr. Egelmeer loves to sing and is blessed to be part of her church’s worship team along with her husband. She also enjoys traveling, learning languages, and spending any chance she can get enjoying creation outdoors!

Dr. Egelmeer enjoys all aspects of pediatrics, but especially preventive and holistic health, to ensure our children grow up in loving, nourishing environments.

Eric Green, MD FAAP

Dr. Green received his B.B.A. from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa 1992. In 1999 he graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa and completed his pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Green is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Green enjoys all aspects of general pediatrics, with a special interest in maintenance of the well state and having a positive influence on decreasing obesity.

Dr. Green enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing hockey, and working on wood.

Lauren Mortensen, MD, FAAP

Dr. Mortensen grew up on the lakeshore in Grand Haven, MI. She received her B.S. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2010 and received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 2014. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI.

She enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband, her three daughters, dog and cats. Together they enjoy being outside, camping, hiking, traveling to new places, running and reading.

Dr. Mortensen enjoys all aspects of pediatrics but has a special interest in newborn care, blood disorders, preventative pediatrics, asthma, and allergies.

Jeanne Poel, MD FAAP

Dr. Poel grew up on the east side of the state in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, in 2010. In 2014, she received her Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her pediatric residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Dr. Poel, along with her husband and four children, are thrilled to be apart of the Holland community. Together they enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, biking, kayaking and taking advantage of the beautiful local beaches.

Dr. Poel loves all aspects of her work as a pediatrician but has a special interest in developmental pediatrics, parenting multiples (she is a mother of twins herself), and injury prevention.

Garett Shook, DO FACOP

Dr. Shook is a native of Rochester Hills, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan in 1994. He had a fitness consulting/personal training business before continuing his education. In 2004, he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (DO) from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his pediatric residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Shook is board certified by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.

Dr. Shook enjoys spending time with his wife and kids who are involved in various youth activities.

Dr. Shook is passionate about caring for children of all ages with interests in sports medicine, behavioral pediatrics and nutrition.

Abi Lamar, CPNP, MSN, RN

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Abigail (“Abi”) has lived in Holland, Michigan her whole life. She attended Grand Valley State University for both her B.S.N. and M.S.N. She worked for four years as an R.N. at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, including one year with the Pediatric Nephrology team. She has been working as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 2008 and originally worked for Holland Pediatrics and Michigan Pediatric Hospitalists. After that, Abi spent five years working in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital before joining Grandville Pediatrics in 2017. She returned to Holland Pediatrics in 2022.

Abi is married and has 3 daughters, including a set of identical twins. In addition to spending time with her family Abi enjoys spending time outdoors, boating, fitness, sports, traveling and gardening. Abi looks forward to meeting with you and talking about your child’s healthcare needs.

Jaclynn Lubbers, CPNP, D.N.P., R.N.

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Jaci received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Hope College in 1994. In 2000, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at Grand Valley State University. In 2012, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree, and she is also from GVSU. Jaci currently serves on the nursing faculty at Calvin College and continues to see patients at Holland Pediatrics.

Some of her clinical and research interests are adolescent health, particularly adolescent mental health. In her “spare time,” she enjoys reading, running, and keeping up with her busy family.

Carrita Plaskewicz, CPNP, M.S.N., R.N.

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Carrita received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Grand Valley State University in December 1999. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at Grand Valley State University in August 2002.

Carrita enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her husband, three children, and extended family.

Angela Smith, CPNP, M.S.N., R.N.

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

In 2001, Angela “Angie” received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Grand Valley State University, and after one year of inpatient pediatric nursing, she decided to pursue her Master of Science in Nursing as well. With a passion for pediatrics, she completed the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program offered by Grand Valley in 2005 and relocated to South Florida, where she joined a private pediatric practice for over five years. Following the addition of her two sons, however, her family decided to come back to Michigan to be near family and friends. Prior to joining us at Holland Pediatrics, she spent some time in the Pediatric Neurology Clinic at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, developing an interest in headache management.

Candace Hoitenga, LMSW

Care Manager and Mental Health Counselor

Candace was born and raised in Holland, MI. She attended Calvin College, where she received her Bachelor’s in social work, and then went on to the University of Michigan School of Social Work for graduate school. There, she obtained her Master’s in Social Work, specializing in work with children/youth and global social work. Since graduating, she has gained clinical experience in a couple of different settings: a behavior interventionist working with refugee children/teens in the foster care system, a behavior interventionist at an elementary school, and a school social worker in an elementary school setting.

Candace loves working with children and their families in order to meet their various social emotional/behavioral needs. She specializes in working with children and teens with ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, and general behavioral concerns. Candace believes that “kids do well when they can” and will meet each child/teen where they are at in order to celebrate who they are and best support their specific needs.

Outside of the office, Candace enjoys spending time with her friends and family, especially her niece and nephews! She loves traveling and exploring new places both nearby and abroad. Other hobbies include golfing, Latin dancing, trying new coffee shops, and singing. She can’t wait to meet you!

Brittney Wagenveld, LMSW, CCATP-CA

Mental Health Counselor and Care Manager

Brittney was born and raised in Holland, MI. However, there are two more places that she holds near to her heart—Arequipa, Peru, and Chicago—having lived in each. Brittney earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Spanish from Calvin University, and she graduated with her Master of Social Work degree from Grand Valley State University. She is a fully licensed social worker in the State of Michigan LMSW), as well as a Clinically Certified Anxiety Treatment Professional for Children and Adolescents CCATP-CA).

Driven by her belief that everyone is worthy of love and belonging, Brittney is passionately dedicated to supporting children, teens, and their families in navigating the complexities of mental health. She finds profound joy in fostering resilience and empowering youth to overcome their challenges through therapy rooted in evidence-based approaches. She strives to create a safe, inclusive space where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported. Brittney specializes in working with anxiety-related diagnoses, stress, depression, life transitions, and the development of coping skills.

Outside of work, Brittney is someone who loves to explore new places and experiences, whether that’s a new coffee shop, hiking trail, or sunset. You’ll often see her with a book in hand or one of her favorite beverages (Diet Dr. Pepper, coffee, boba tea). She loves her people and enjoys investing in her time with them. That, and cuddling with her two cats, Peru and Hondo.
